17 August 2020 Current Affairs:Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and one of Indian cricket’s most well-known openers, Chetan Chauhan passed away on 15th August from COVID-19 related complications. He died at the age of 73. He was currently serving as the Minister of Sainik Welfare, Home Guards, and Civil Security in the UP cabinet.
Chetan Chauhan:
Chetan Chauhan played 40 Tests for India. He was the longest-serving opening partner of the legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar. After retiring from cricket, Chauhan served in the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) and held various positions like the president, vice-president, secretary, and chief selector. He also served as the Manager of the Indian Team during its tour of Australia in 2001. He was elected as a Member of Lok Sabha twice from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, in 1991 and 1998. Chauhan was honoured with the Arjuna Award in the year 1981.
