Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched submarine cable connectivity to Andaman and Nicobar Islands

10 August 2020 Current Affairs:Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the submarine cable connectivity to Andaman & Nicobar Islands (CANI) through video conferencing. The submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC), which was dedicated to the nation, will connect Andaman & Nicobar Islands to the mainland. The project was laid by the PM on 30th December 2018 at Port Blair.

CANI:
The connectivity will enable endless opportunities in the islands.
CANI will provide connectivity from Chennai to Port Blair, Port Blair to Little Andaman and Port Blair to Swaraj Island.
The Connectivity will boost the opportunities in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The cables are laid for about 2300 kilometers under the sea as surveying in the deep sea.
It aims to maintain the quality of the cable with specialized vessels.
It will provide better and cheap connectivity to the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which is the responsibility of the country. 
It aims to promote ease of business and simplifying Maritime Logistics, which is the focus of the Government of India (GoI).
With Infrastructure, Andaman & Nicobar will be developed as a hub of Port Led Development as it is at a Competitive Distance from many ports of the World.
